Statement on the forthcoming Scottish Labour leadership contest

The Campaign for Socialism (CfS) welcomes the interim leadership of Alex Rowley MSP and encourages all Scottish Labour members to continue with the fight against austerity under Alex's guidance.

The Scottish Executive Committee (SEC) will meet on 9th September to discuss the timetable and process for the contest and we hope to see a broad and open contest of ideas that includes the widest possible constituency within the rules set out by the party.

It is vitally important that Scottish Labour Party members unite behind the winner of that contest in order that we can continue on the road to government for the many, not the few.

All contributors to the debate should do so in a comradely, respectful, constructive, and positive fashion in line with the example set out by Jeremy Corbyn in the 2015 and 2016 Labour leadership contests. Only by following this example can we continue the fight against Tory and SNP austerity as a united force, renewed by fresh leadership.

CfS looks forward to an engaging and compelling showcase of our party's potential in the weeks to come.
